I'm a psychiatrist by practice (three decades in San Francisco, and since 2022 on the Big Island of Hawaii) and a neuroscientist by training. My writing focuses on adult ADHD, which remains under-detected and misunderstood. Having helped scores of individuals comprehend and gain control over their lives, I aim to bring the knowledge and wisdom shared by my patients to a wider audience through my writing and videos.

I also write and speak on a host of other mental health issues, including psychopharmacology, suicide and sleep. Beyond that, my articles address the natural world, running, LGBTQ issues, politics, and my own life experiences.

Growing up in the midwest I was a birdwatcher and bird bander, at a time when that meant you were some kind of nature nerd. I've completed 100 marathons, and coached hundreds of novices to run their first marathon. My husband and I live with our rescue dog, Mr. Cupcake, on the rainy side of Hawaii. Our twins are now college graduates.
