For one year, my weekly blog will address recent utterances or actions of Mr. Trump that highlight his severe, under-treated, hyperactive, adult ADHD. I do not intend to comment on his politics or policies, except as directly shaped by ADHD. My observations and analyses do not imply that all people with ADH behave like Mr. Trump, not that ADHD is Mr. Trump’s only mental health issue.
Comedians had a field day when Mr. Trump said, “We’re building a wall in Colorado.”. In Pittsburg he spoke about building his border wall in New Mexico, Colorado, and Texas, but then pointed out that Kansas would not receive part of the wall. While it is possible that the president really knows the location of Colorado and of our border with Mexico, and simply misspoke, his comment appears to reflect his ongoing difficulty organizing his facts, particularly when distracted by a list of options.
Mr. Trump utters such errors on a daily basis. Although some of his untruths seem intended to create false narratives, more often they seem to represent that he simply can’t keep his facts straight. His problems organizing his words reflect a more pervasive problem with organizing the tasks and activities of the presidency. As his former Chief of Staff, General John Kelly, mentioned this…
