Come Celebrate Medium’s Birthday (and mine too)!
You’re probably already aware that this is a busy week for medium.com. Hundreds of writers, along with executives and staff, will celebrate Medium’s eleventh birthday with on-line presentations on Medium Day, Saturday August 12th.
Everything is free, but people are being encouraged to sign-up ahead of time: https://hopin.com/events/medium-day-2023/registration
It happens to be a busy birthday week for me as well. I carefully planned this, more than six decades ago, in order to sandwich my birthday between minor back surgery on Thursday, and two Medium Day presentations on Saturday.
I’ll be talking during two half hour time slots. I’ll start each session with a brief reading of an article I published on medium, add a few comments, and then hope to turn the remainder of the time into a Q and A based discussion.
My first topic (4:30 Pacific Time) is combining Humor and Science/Health/Mental Health Writing. What can humor add? Why do we so often shun it in scientific writing? Is it ever completely inappropriate?
My second topic (5:30 Pacific Time) is on Being Plagiarized. How do we integrate the twinned feelings of violation (my work’s been stolen!) and validation (my work’s good enough to steal!). We may also chose to look at how AI is already increasing the frequency with which writers feel like their work is being stolen.
Come join me, and check out scores of other interesting topics!
