I don't think that Schumer has been a great leader, but in his defense I don't see that he has any leverage over Manchin. McConnell and the Republican Party have been actively courting Manchin for years. Manchin would probably be helped, not hurt, in his home state of West Virginia if he were to switch parties (as Governor Jim Justice did). Sinema is certainly another story.
