I usually find your observations perceptive, and the motives you attribute to the people you skewer worth considering. But this article I feel a little off the mark. Until January, I lived in Pelosi's district for 30 years. She routinely wins with more than 80% of the vote, often holding opponents to single digits. She could probably be buried in that blue suit and still win her re-election. She certainly was not promoting herself in order to garner more votes in her constituency.
As some of your other readers pointed out, I think she was actually being fairly direct and genuine, pointing out how at least the Democrats in our country are supporting democracy over authoritarian theocrats.
And as for danger, I think that there are probably at least as many deranged Trumpists stalking Washington DC who really really want to kill Nancy, and how carry guns, than there are Russians actively targeting her. As far as I have read, none of the western dignitaries who have visited Ukraine in the past two months have been in imminent peril.
I think that she continues to show brilliant judgment as a political strategist and tactitian, and used her very age (and gender) in her visit to highlight the cowardice of Trump and other blowhard Republican chicken hawks. Despite having a Democratic caucus in the House that is by many measure more diverse than the Democratic caucus in the Senate, she has martialled victories to pass almost every piece of the "Biden agenda" in the House. The failure of the Senate to live up to its responsiblities can't be laid at her feet.
