I'd emphasize that you're not a dummy. People have different capacities, and learning a second language at an early age seems to prime most brains to become more adept at the language.

I did well enough on AP French and Latin to opt out of the college language requirement. But for me it was just an exercise in decoding/translating rather than any real fluency. I speak my native English slowly, and I hear other languages slowly (and often feel like a dummy.)

But whatever your language of proficiency - you'll get better with practice.
