In addition to the valor of the Capitol police officers, the failed insurrection also made a very strong case for the efficacy of gun control. The mayor and police chief announced repeatedly in the weeks ahead of the riot that they would be strictly enforcing the district's gun laws and that anyone bringing in arms would have them confiscated. And a vast majority of the open carry fanatics who made up a considerably part of the rioters clearly listened, and left their weapons at home. We would have seen many more dead bodies if they had come fully armed.
