I've noticed people leaning the other way, saying that they "are" ADHD, or autism, rather than they have a condition. My understanding is that these individuals feel that they are just describing the way in which they are neurodiverse, rather than "having a condition". I struggled a bit with the concept until I asked myself, am I gay, or do I just have "gayness".
