Melting Down, or More of the Same?
Are the President’s recent strange comments just examples of his ADHD, or reflecting something more sinister?
Last week multiple sources confirmed that Mr. Trump labeled US soldiers who had died in defense of our country suckers and losers. He defended himself, while claiming to respect and cherish our military, by personally attacking General Kelly, his former chief of staff. On another front, after weeks of proclaiming, against all evidence, that mail voting was fraught with fraud, he encouraged his supporters in North Carolina to commit a felony by voting both by mail and in person. Is he melting down, or is this just more of the same?
Many, particularly on the left, interpreted these statements as signs that the president is unraveling. They surmise that polls showing that he still substantially trails Biden have triggered fears of his not being re-elected, and of the legal and financial difficulties that could quickly follow an electoral loss. They see evidence that Mr. Trump’s behavior has become more bizarre, more desperate, and less rooted in reality.
But are the recent comments any more strange than boasting that his nuclear button was larger than Kim Jong Un’s, and months later, sending “love letters” to Little Rocket Man? Any less aware of…
