Narcissism is only half of Trump's problem. He also has ADHD-like deficits in his executive functions. A pure narcissist doesn't just crave attention - Trump clearly craves positive positive attention - he is desperate for people think that he is smart and brave and right. It is because of his ADHD that he blurts out anything that comes to mind, regardless of whether it makes him look idiotic or not. A semi-competent narcissist would have organized an effective insurrection on January 6, not the failed mess we witnessed.

And his ADHD makes him attractive to his followers - they mistake his candor for honesty. They think that if he says whatever he is thinking at the moment then he can't be lying.
