Not only did they kill many of their own voters, the most recent statistics show that the economies of red states didn't fare any better than blue states that had more extensive shutdowns, and that student's scores on standardized tests fell just as much in red as in blue states. So two of the major rationalizations (lockdowns hurt the economy and hurt learning in school) that they offered for protesting public health restrictions don't seem supported by the evidence.
