Providing context for how current problems arose is almost always of use if you don’t want to create more crises when addressing a current situation.

Americans keep failing to see that we have limited influence over what occurs within other countries. We weren’t able to convince enough Afghans to follow our model rather than what the Taliban represents. And whenever we signalled that we were really leaving we would likely have triggered a collapse like what we are currently seeing. That doesn’t make Biden incompetent, it means he has limited ability to change internal affairs in other countries.

For me, focusing on today’s problem means helping leave the country for the Afghans who helped the US over the last twenty years; and pressuring the Taliban to be as moderate as they can be regarding women’s rights, education, and religious and other minorities’ rights, and to prevent the establishment of futere terroist cells.

And if you think Trump is gone, then you aren’t paying any attention to the current Republican voters and political leaders, who continue to lie, break democratic norms, and coverup corruption and malfeasance of the Trump administration.
