Thank you for providing the opportunity to restate what I believe is actually in my article. Perhaps for the sake of brevity, I was not clear enough. I affirm that puberty blockers are indeed effective in blocking puberty.
What is important here, though, is that in transgender kids, the rationale for the blocking is not to give them "more time" to make a decision about transitioning. These are the subset of kids who have firmly, clearly, consistently and persistently voiced their identity. Delaying just to stretch out the timing of the process is actually harmful and cruel in that situation. The rationale is simpler, and that is to prevent pubertal changes that would make one appear more like the non-desired gender. Then they can move directly to taking hormones that help induce the bodily changes that are more consistent with their gender identity.
