As for reasons to go ahead with ADHD medications, one of the previous commenters has noted that some (most?) of the women who develop ADHD symptoms during perimenopausal years may actually have had subthreshold lelvels of ADHD, and were able to compensate or mask over them until that time.

If immediate relief from cognitive/executive function symptoms was the most important issue to target, ADHD medications have the poential to provide immediate relief - and don't necessarily mean the individual will need/want to continue using them in the long term.

Although stimulants and other ADHD medications have some common (and usually dose deprendent) side effects most of the severe side effects are uncommon, and many adults use these medications for years without any problems.
