Not only do we have trouble naming conditions, or disorders, or diseases, but we also have done a lousy job of naming medications. Several medications that were initially developed for schizophrenia have also been found to be useful for treating bipolar disorder, or in unipolar depression, they can help make an antidepressant work more effectively. The FDA has approved some "antipsychotics" for use as antidepressant augmenting agents.

But if that is what your psychiatrist had intended, she should have been able to explain that to you.
