What I can say here has to be fairly generic, since I don't know your medical history or current status. But in my experience, planning a taper over at least six weeks to two months (and often longer) is usually gradual enough that the vast majority of patients do not have any, or at most, very mild, discomfort.

One other important factor is that these are not linear systems. 40 mg does not block/bind to 2/3 of the receptors that a 60 mg dose does. So bigger mg jumps are usually easier at the beginning, and at the end of the taper, much smaller increments usually work better.
