Yes, I'm aware that mechanistic labels may lead to lots of confusion, but I think that is a step better than misdirection, which is what our current system does. Calling a medication an SSRI may or may not mean much to an individual, but most people think they "know" what an antidepressant is. But the antidepressant label is outright misleading, when many antidepressants are used for other uses (more than 90% of trazodone prescriptions are to help with sleep), and some drugs without an official FDA antidepressant label (Luvox, Savella) are effective antidepressants.
