Yes, other than mentioning medications in the second paragraph, I wanted to focus on refocusing. Some medications may help with that, and some may act directly on the anxiety to alleviate it.

I've certainly worked with some individuals who struggled with CBT approaches until they had been taking an SSRI or SNRI medication for a few weeks. There are a few studies, and many clinicians who observe that benzodiazepines (Valium, Xanax, Ativan, Klonopin and others) may actually undermine CBT, partly because they works so well. The person can end up believing that all of CBT is "just talk" and what really got rid of their anxiety is the pill they swallowed.

I could go on..... there's probably a whole article here on CBT/medication interactions for anxiety, but I'll leave that for another day.
