You seem to be ignoring the Trump problem the Republicans have. If Trump is the Republican nominee, it is very likely that at least 10% of the party would not vote for him a third time, and he can't win a general election without them. If Trump isn't the nominee, he probably takes at least 10% of the Republican party with him, depriving the official Republican nominee of a win in the general election.
